When I came into Pür Detox a month ago, I was bewildered, confused and full of despair. I wanted to help but I had lost hope with traditional forms of treatment like a 12 step program. I was treated by the staff with so much warmth and compassion and respect right from the beginning. I knew in my heart I was in the right place. My despair slowly grew into hope (due largely to the genuine help of each staff member). Once I recovered from withdrawal symptoms I started the Sauna Detox Program. I quickly realized the benefits physically, spiritually and emotionally. I finally felt that I was totally eliminating the poisons that had been accumulating in my body. My mental sharpness returned. My focus and clarity returned. I was remembering things so clearly and could concentrate again. I was calm and peaceful again. I felt vibrant and full of energy.

The sauna totally exceeded my expectations, but truly the support, expertise and empathy of the staff was absolutely outstanding. I feel like myself again, in a way I haven’t felt in years. Confident, enthusiastic, optimistic and full of life!

Thank you so much.

C.P. – June 2010

“As a result of abusing opiates over the last 3-4 years I found myself alone at the bottom of a deep dark hole. When one finds themselves in that position; the first order of business is to stop digging. This led me to Pür Detox. Previously, I had given up all hopes of obtaining sobritety itself, let alone feeling a passion to live life once again. Every subsequent day here my body and mind awoke little by little. My feelings returned. My level of energy and the ablility to focus has reached leveles I never previously thought possible once again. I no longer think about drugs, let alone crave them after completion of the sauna detox program. I really believe the sauna program was key. The staff were very knowledgeable, friendly and empathetic. The location and food were amazing. I find myself not wanting to leave, but life awaits. As I leave here today I no longer stand in a hole but find myself once again on level ground enthusiastically ready to climb a mountain.” – T.C. June 2010

Who are the Taliban? I’m not too sure. They don’t look like nice guys at all. Of course all my data comes from media controlled outlets from the U.S. mainly. But from all sources I can see they look pretty darn strict on the population.

But one thing I definitely see, and which is unarguable is the fact that the Taliban were extinguishing opium production in Afghanistan. And thus cutting deeply into the world heroin addiction problem.

Afghanistan is currently the greatest opium producer in the world – and by far! Approximately 7,700 metric tons of opium production occurs in Afghanistan as compared to the #2 producer (Myanmar) at about 400 metric tons! And poor ol’ Russia is getting the bulk of it with 91% of this production entering Russia through opium trade routes. Not to make light of it but Russia’s heroin problem makes ours look like a sugar high so to speak.

Well, the Taliban were solving this problem somehow. The Taliban banned opium production in Afghanistan in 2000. It again re-issued this ban on July 27, 2000. By February 2001 opium production had been reduced from 12,600 acres to only 17 acres.

September 11th happened, along comes a US lead force targeting terrorists, the Taliban were booted, new government was put into force under US control and direction.

Opium production since that time has increased from around 100 metric tons to an eye-popping 7,700 metric tons! That’s a lot of heroin and a huge need for heroin detox.

Based on the 2009 World Drug Report from the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime more land is now used for opium production in Afghanistan alone than the entirety of all of Latin America’s coca production. Wow! Forget Scarface! Who is this Poppy guy?!

I definitely don’t know the whole picture here. I don’t know who the puppet masters are. I don’t know what the true reasons behind all this stuff is.

But I do know at least that the Taliban were shrinking a lot of wallets. And that probably upset a few people.

I remember reading a NY Times article last month about soaring opiate abuse amongst our military troops. Something like several hundred times more military personnel seeking treatment for opiate abuse last year compared to several years back.

I thought of this when looking over paperwork for just another client checking into our facility this week. Yup, opiate detox. Made me think of that article for some reason.

But none of the recent clients are military personnel. This isn’t just a problem of “opiate abuse in the military up 400%.” This is a general public problem. A problem on the streets and in the homes right here in the good ol’ U.S. of A.

Mothers, fathers, children, teachers, clergy, doctors, counselors, etc., etc. This problem is knocking on a lot of doors. More doors than any of us really like to imagine. But I see them knocking at my door now. I’m sitting here looking at up trending statistics in my facility for the past year. It’s easily our greatest detox program item at this point.

Opiate abuse is not a foreign neighbor. Open your eyes and it is very possibly sitting right next door. And those being affected by it I guarantee you are quietly screaming for help. And I’m not talking just about the users. I’m talking about those loved ones around the users. The wife. The daughter. The husband. The son. The grandparent.

But hey! Let’s just take more pain killers and kill the thought of it. Yeah, it’ll be all good after that. Yeah, it’ll be all good.

To the staff of Pur Detox:

Just about 10 days ago I had a plan in action to take my life. I had been hoarding pills and the option to take them became a very viable answer to the total hopelessness I was feeling.

I have an incredible husband of 36 years and 4 children. The youngest is 4 and oldest 34. Today, the thought that I could actually choose to leave my family sends pure terror down my body.

Looking back, I did have the tools to know I had to have help; I could not do alone what I considered to be a lack in strength and intelligence. I knew that what I was doing was not working; every visit to the psychiatrist was just an addition of medication. It was as if I became completely lacking in feelings (up or down) then he had done his job. I turned my computer on and by my belief, the Grace of God opened the web page of Pur Detox. Alternative—Naturopathic—off medications not medically needed (or working) and using vitamin, mineral, all natural supplements? Was this my answer? It took only a second to ask for a call back. The call came in seconds and my questions were answered and something outside of my power loudly let me know this was what I was looking for.

Being a state away from this facility, I was met by a staff member within 5 hours of that call. I knew instinctively that this was exactly where I was supposed to be. I could hardly move, speak, eat, drink; however, I could believe that something might actually help me; I could sit in the possibility of a return to life. Although my first day was a holiday, the Medical Director came to the facility to assist in the beginning of a process to help me feel comfortable in my skin. There was something in this action that gave me the feeling that these people cared about me—someone in this world (other than my family) wanted me to know that I was worth feeling good; I was worth the time of these incredible people, even on a holiday! Me, who was just ready to leave this world being worthless, poor in spirit, lost, and terrified.

I have now experienced a group of men and women who are willing to walk to the beach at 1:00 AM if it might help in how I feel. I believe that is a very hard thing to dismiss. These wonderful people seemed to know intuitively what I needed (not necessarily what I wanted) and I believed in their way.

By day 4 here, I had a voice back, I had a smile back, again I say, I believed so strongly this was the right place for me. My body began to stop hurting, I began sleeping, eating, laughing, looking at a beautiful future. It has not always been easy and uphill—but there was always someone to help me see good, to help me see I was not alone. I was not condemned to live in a world of shadows; a world where I could not play with my 4 year old or my grandsons; a world that I could not be there for my husband and grown children. I realized I had hope again and my smile, (inside and out) began to grow. I know hope.

I no longer take (or crave) a medication (this includes benzodiazepines, antidepressants, hormone replacement therapy, just to name a few). These have been replaced and balanced in my system in a natural way from the help detox at Pur.

I am writing only a few hours from leaving for home—a very short time to change my entire life. I do live in reality and know that it is not always going to be easy and someone will be there with an answer. I do know that change can occur and I know I can pick up the phone at anytime and talk with someone who knows and cares.

My husband and youngest daughter visited me just a few days ago and out of the mouth of babes, my 4 year old said “Momma, you have light in your eyes”. Is there a better testimony? Not for me—I want to be there as a Mom with that light—one that is real and not dimmed by medication/drugs.

If I wanted the research base, I could find it—it would only affirm what I am experiencing. I don’t need to look at the research—I want to live my life that has been returned to me.

I have never had to prove myself to anyone here. When I first walked through the doors, I had a feeling that I was trusted and I was believed. When I was unable to sleep at night—I was encouraged to sleep whenever I could. Rest is good for the body and soul. I have been in other facilities and there is no comparison for me. I truly believe I will live a longer and happier life continuing to do what I have been taught here. When I need help, I know where to call; I know where my call will be welcomed as coming home.

I was told last night by a dear friend who is also a patient here that I was the funniest person she had ever known. She is talking about someone who was unable to smile only a week ago. I laugh, I cry, I feel.

I would name the staff, but there are too many. Words can’t express what I feel about each and every one of you. You each have a very special place in my heart. My gratitude goes beyond what time provides me. From my heart and soul, thank you for believing in me and helping me cleanse body and soul. I have hope; I need say no more. I finally got found the marijuana detox that saved my life.

Thank You,

N.B.
