At first, I was a little skeptical of the sauna program. I did do some research and after reading the success stories from others (online) I thought I might just give it a try.

Cocaine is an addictive psychoactive drug. It was vastly popular during the late 80′s and early 90′s however; it is one of the oldest psychoactive substances. What is cocaine and where does it come from? It comes from the coca plant, specifically the leaves. The coca leaves have been used by indigenous tribes in the area for energy since its discovery. Coca leaves were harvested in the early 1900′s and pure cocaine was used in many tonics and elixirs. Once it was discovered that this plant was a highly addictive substance, the countries that were producing the crops of coca bushes destroyed them and manufacturing stopped. Columbia however did not stop producing the plant and is still to this day the country with the largest coca plant supply.

Today cocaine is considered a schedule II drug meaning that it is said to have addictive properties but still can be prescribed for medicinal purposes. The most common use for this drug today in the medical field is as a local anesthetic for eye, ear and throat surgery. It is sold on the street in the form of a crystalline white powder that is deluded using a base (such as cornstarch). The methods of administration are inhalation, injection, smoking or oral. It causes the user to have a feeling of euphoria and abundance of energy. The user will have heightened mental clarity and focus. As someone begins to use cocaine on a regular basis, they become tolerant and will need to use more than before to produce the same effect.

In 2007, cocaine was accounted for about 13% of all rehabilitation facility admissions and the number has gone down since then. Cocaine now accounts for about 7% of all rehabilitation facility admissions. Currently, there is no drug to help with cocaine withdraw such as there is for opiates. The medical detox process would be done using a mild sedative if anything (such as Valium) and the person typically begins to feel relief from the symptoms with about three to five days. I would like to start off by saying that I am a person who expects a lot of himself and therefore of others. The staff at Pur did not let me down. When I first showed up at Pur, I was in pretty bad shape, but they handled me with respect, kindness and understanding. For the next four days they treated me the same way.

I am nearly phobic about cleanliness and organization. They met my expectations on both levels! The entire staff was kind, courteous and friendly, not to mention completely professional. This was by far the best prescription drug detox I have ever been to.
