Alcohol affects the nervous system and can result in nerve damage and severe memory loss. Chronic alcohol use also increases the risk of cancer of the larynx, esophagus, liver, and colon. Withdrawal develops because the brain has physically adapted to the presence of alcohol and cannot function adequately in the absence of the drug. Alcohol withdrawal symptoms may include a rapid heart rate, restlessness, anxiety, psychosis, depression, loss of appetite, seizures, an elevated temperature, increased blood pressure, hallucinations and even death. Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation and receiving further inpatient and/or outpatient help once fully detoxed is a must and is something that the staff of Pür Detox will ensure happens. Our detox centers while not a rehabilitation facility can be an enormous help in preparing you for entry into treatment & rehab.  We can also provide a referral to an excellent rehabilitation facility.

When possible, supervised activities include walking on the beach, surf fishing (we supply the equipment), and local shopping and tourist activities.

We believe that our clients should get plenty of tasty, healthful food during their stay with us, since vitamin intake and good nutrition are often in a dismal state when they arrive. Rehabilitation to a healthy state is much easier to achieve when this is handled. All meals are provided for our clients and are prepared using healthful ingredients which are organic as possible. We also allow clients access to our kitchen facilities for those clients wishing to prepare their own foods.

Transportation is provided from a number of regional airports, including Los Angeles International, Orange County and San Diego International airports. Cocaine Detox

Regular use of cocaine can lead to strong psychological dependence (addiction). During the detox process, addicts can potentially go through a variety of withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms may include minor problems, such as anxiety, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headaches, nausea, and troubled sleeping. The individual’s specific drug of choice combined with various other factors, can possibly lead to more severe, and possibly life threatening, symptoms.

Ativan Detox

Ativan is the brand name for Lorazepam, an anti-anxiety agent. Ativan is a benzodiazepine and mild tranquilizer, sedative, and central nervous system (CNS) depressant. Ativan can cause psychological and physical addiction. Individuals develop an addiction to Ativan because it produces feelings of well-being. Ativan is very addictive. Withdrawal symptoms, similar in character to those noted with barbiturates and alcohol have occurred following abrupt discontinuance of Ativan. The more severe withdrawal symptoms have usually been limited to those patients who received excessive doses over an extended period of time.

There is a wide variety of drugs and narcotic substances an individual can experience strong detoxification from. Mezzanine Room

The Mezzanine Room is a larger completely private or a double occupancy room on the main floor, with a detached bathroom. This room has sweeping ocean views and direct access to a large private patio. As in our other rooms, blackout shades are provided for those who wish to sleep during the day. This room has a 42” flat screen HDTV with DVD player.

Executive Suite

The Upstairs Room is our premier location for detoxing clients. With sweeping ocean views from its large patio, this room also has a “Fire-and-Ice” fireplace, a large Jacuzzi tub, Greek shower, beautiful vanity, and an enormous walk-in closet. It is truly a room to be appreciated. As in other rooms at Pür, it has blackout shades provided for those who wish to sleep during the day. The room also has a 42” flat screen HDTV with DVD player.

If a client wishes to have their own room, they may pay double and have any of the rooms to themselves, per availability. Many of our clients need a methadone detox which we can provide the most luxurious environment.

Other areas of the building

Other areas include a spacious common room with a 50” LCD TV, theatre-quality surround sound, XBOX 360, and fireplace. The building overlooks Laguna Beach, and there is access to Victoria Beach, just a five-minute walk away (when clients are supervised). With supervision, clients may use the front office to access the internet if they don’t have a laptop. Cell phones are not allowed in the common areas of the building due to privacy laws, but can be accessed on a very limited basis in the front office only so that clients can retrieve phone numbers.

The kitchen is on the third floor and equipped with a top-of-the-line, stainless steel Viking stove, oven, microwave and fridge. Marble countertops hug a beautiful view of the ocean where whales can sometimes be seen. Meals are provided, but we understand the occasional desire to have your own snacks or drinks available. Clients can store food or cook for themselves, as long as they clean up afterwards.

Located in beautiful Laguna Beach, California, Pür Detox offers a full detox program with all the comforts you would expect from a bed and breakfast. Our clients sleep in comfortable, double sized, pillow top beds with Tempur-Pedic® pillows and high quality linens. Each room has its own HDTV (or clients can watch one of two big screen HDTVs in community areas). Music in each room is provided via a high-fidelity sound system.

Clients also enjoy patios overlooking the Pacific ocean, and a five-minute walk to Victoria Cove. Private phones and high-speed Internet access are available throughout the building for those who wish to bring a laptop computer. The Internet can also be accessed in the office for those without computers of their own.

When possible, supervised activities include walking on the beach, surf fishing (we supply the equipment), and local shopping.

Originally designed in the 1950’s to eliminate radiation poisoning from fatty tissue, we offer our specific Sauna Detoxification program to handle an array of toxic conditions, including stored drug toxins, pesticides, heavy metal toxicity, ionizing radiation poisoning, and chemical toxicity of just about any kind.

This is a medically supervised sauna program for those who have completed a drug detox, as well as for the general public. The sauna regimen consists of dry sauna in 20-minute intervals for 2 1/2 to 5 hours per day. Cooling all the way down between sessions is heavily supervised to prevent overheating, while the toxins are literally sweated out of your body. The process is based on the book, Clear Body Clear Mind, by L. Ron Hubbard.

Clients are first given a full examination by one of our participating doctors (or their own), and may then begin sessions. In order to replace lost nutrients and help the body “give up” stored toxins, clients are placed on a regimen of vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, fatty acids (oils) and cell salts. The process usually takes between two and four weeks. At the end of this time, mental clarity is often increased dramatically. Clients also regularly experience a return to normal sleep patterns and an overall sense of well being and good health. Skin conditions can clear up, even scars may lessen, and in drug cases, physical cravings can be eliminated entirely.

Pricing

The cost of the Sauna Detoxification program is $5500 for those commuting from home. Out-of-town clients can stay in a local hotel for $1000 to $2000 per week, depending on what level of accommodations they want, in addition to the cost of the Sauna program.

Heroin

Heroin accounted for 39% of drug induced deaths from overdose and 11% of drug abuse-related emergency room episodes in 1992. Typically, heroin is used every four to six hours in doses of 4 to 8 milligrams each. The euphoria of heroin lasts only a few hours. Heroin users show signs that include constricted and non-reactive pupils, muscle relaxation a decrease in pulse, reflexes, blood pressure, and respiration rate, and fresh needle marks. The drug also causes constipation. Heroin use drives out the neurotransmitter endorphin, when this happens and heroin isn’t used, withdrawal symptoms begin. Symptoms include muscle ache, nausea, sweating, insomnia, chills, diarrhea, and vomiting. Periods of addiction usually last four to six months, often ceasing because the addict is arrested or enters a drug treatment program. Periods of abstinence usually last no longer than a few weeks or months, and relapse is usually precipitated by physical or mental stress. Once addicted to intravenous use of heroin, a staggering 70 to 80 percent of users continue to use for many years or a lifetime.

Methadone

Methadone detox is invaluable to those who have tried to discontinue using opiates with methadone maintenance. Individuals are as physically dependent on methadone as they were to heroin or other opiates; this is not recovery from drug addiction. Detox from Methadone may be more difficult than other substances, but the end result is a body clean from drug polluting toxins. An individual who uses methadone over a period of several months to years and decides to discontinue use will experience a long and painful withdrawal. Many people go from being addicted to heroin to acquiring a methadone addiction. They continue with this “treatment” for years, fearing the withdrawal that will occur when they stop. Methadone does not have to be the way of life for former heroin addicts. Gradual cessation followed by a drug-free program of rehabilitation may be the answer for many sufferers.

Oxycontin

OxyContin was first introduced in 1995. It is a Schedule 11 controlled drug used in the treatment of severe pain disorders. OxyContin is a long acting formulation of oxycodone, the medication’s active ingredient.

The drug is a powerful pain killer and widely used in clinical medicine. However, because of its mood altering effects, Oxycontin can be abused. Over the past decade, OxyContin has become a popular drug and the mood altering effects it produces has led to a significant increase in abuse of the drug and chemical dependency and addiction.

Respiratory depression is a major severe complication of oxycontin detox. Respiratory depression is a cause of concern in elderly or debilitated patients, and usually follows after the use of large initial doses in non tolerant patients, or when other opioids are given concurrently. In the community, the majority of OxyContin-related deaths have occurred in individuals who were ingesting large quantities of oxycontin in combination with either alcohol or benzodiazepines. OxyContin may cause severe hypertension. The drug is easily abused by simply crushing the tablets and either ingestion, injection, inhalation or placed rectally. The drug can have serious side effects when injected as it has a prolonged extended action. OxyContin detox is accomplished similarly to other drug detoxification. The individual is stepped down slowly off their dose of OxyContin until they no longer physically need to take it. Without this process, the withdrawal symptoms from OxyContin may be so severe that OxyContin detox may seem impossible to the individual. Detoxification tracked by long-term treatment is an effective method of relieving withdrawal symptoms while patients adjust to a drug-free state.

To suddenly stop taking oxycontin can result in serious withdrawal symptoms. The withdrawal syndrome may be characterized by restlessness, dizziness, headaches, anxiety, yawning, perspiration, queasiness, sweating, and chills. Other symptoms also may develop, include irritability, vague pain, weakness, abdominal cramps, insomnia, nausea, anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea, or increased blood pressure, respiratory rate, or heart rate.

Xanax withdrawal can produce especially severe withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal symptoms that are similar to those in alcohol.

Suboxone Detox

Suboxone is a pill that has two different medicines inside, buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is a medicine that is used to reduce unpleasant withdrawl effects people have when they stop using opioid drugs such as heroin, and naxolone is a medicine that is supposed to reverse the effects of heroin and opiate related narcotics. Detoxification is the process of allowing the body to rid itself of a drug while managing the symptoms of withdrawal.

Our clients are provided a detox program from all narcotics including heroin, methamphetamine (also called speed, crystal and meth), cocaine, ecstasy; prescription medications such as Oxycontin, Vicodin, Demerol, and morphine; psychiatric medications including Xanax, Effexor, Seroquil, Somas (among others), heavy marijuana use, and alcohol. This includes blood work and a completely individualized medication regimen.

Integrative Treatment

In addition to medications, Pür clients are given IV vitamin drips and daily “drug bombs,” which are vitamin formulas of the highest grade, specifically designed to remedy the often severe vitamin depletion people experience during drug use. We also use Cal-Mag, a beverage containing a mixture of calcium gluconate and magnesium carbonate, since Calcium and Magnesium are the two minerals most depleted during drug use. Additionally, amino acids and other vitamins are available under supervision if the client is interested a higher level of nutrition based recuperation, or as recommended by a doctor.

Pain and Relaxation Techniques

Specialized techniques which have a deeply relaxing effect on people going through stress or anxiety are used regularly at Pür Detox, During the detox process, people often struggle with cramps and muscle pain, and we have found that certain physical techniques are a great help, not only in relaxing the muscles and alleviating pain, but to work any drug metabolites more quickly from body tissues, often increasing recovery time. It also helps in promoting deeper, more regular sleep patterns, and can help increase appetite. We employ a light touch to help open nerve channels in the body. We also have techniques to help alleviate pain, relax the body, and improve a person’s sense of physical well-being.

Acupuncture and Acupressure

Eastern Medicine as well as conventional methods can provide a great deal of relief from a variety of maladies, including pain, loss of appetite, and sleeplessness. Sessions with a skilled, licensed Acupuncturist are included in the program and are encouraged for our clients during their stay with us.

Alcohol abuse becomes alcohol dependence when drinkers begin to experience a craving for alcohol, a loss of control of their drinking, withdrawal symptoms when they are not drinking, and an increased tolerance to alcohol so that they have to drink more to achieve the same effect. Alcohol dependence is a chronic and often progressive disease that includes a strong need to drink despite repeated problems.

Alcohol Detox

The objective of alcohol detox is to help the patient achieve an alcohol free state. Detox is intended to relieve the physical symptoms of withdrawal. Detox helps prepare the patient for entry into treatment and rehab. The time necessary for alcohol detox can be anywhere from 3 to 14 days. Alcohol also affects other body systems. Irritation of the gastrointestinal tract can occur with erosion of the lining of the esophagus and stomach causing nausea and vomiting, and possibly bleeding. Vitamins are not absorbed properly, which can lead to nutritional deficiencies with the long-term use of alcohol.
